CASE CONCERNING LIQUOR LAWS BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Oct. 18, 10.25 a.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 17. Federal Judge Hand dismissed the proceedings against the Royal mail liner Orduna for alleged violations of the prohibition and narcotic laws. The Federal Prosecutor in his complaint cited 45 alleged causes of forfeiture, of which the. court recognised only six which fixed the penalties because of failure to manifest liquor on board. The court held that since the Oi’duna was unquestionably a common carrier her failure to manifest narcotics and liquor constitutes no ground for forfeiture, unless the owners have privity, thereto. It is alleged that the Government had contended that it was unnecessary to prove the owners’ privity of consent. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
