Mrs John Plunket Stodart, who died in Auckland this week, aged 63 years, was a grand-daughter of Captain Powditcli, a member of the first Auckland Provincial Council. The Hon. George Powlds and Mrs Fdwlds, of Auckland, who have been on a six months’ trip to the United State's and Canada, during which they attended the Potary Convention at Toronto, returned this week. A Christchurch message says that Mr 0. T. Aschman, headmaster of the Normal School, one of the best known teachers in • Canterbury, has resigned after 42 years’ service.

Mr A. J. Edmunds, a solicitor who practised his profession in New Plymouth for a short time some years ago, died at Wnrkworth, Auckland, on Saturday last after a long illness. Mr Charles Edwin Gledhill, formerly a well-known resident of New Plymouth, died at Auckland on Wednesday, aged 74 years. He was for many years in business in New Plymouth, and ■ afterwards had a small farm at. the Cross Poads, Mangorei. He married Miss Sarah Possiter, who survives him. ■ •. . Nine months’ leave of absence was granted the Pev. Pobertson Orr by .the Wellington Presbytery this week, from February 25, 1925, Mr Orr to make arrangements for the filling of the pulpit, and report to the Presbytery. . It is his intention to visit the United States and Britain. Members were unanimous in wishing him the utmost benefit from the change and the experience.

The Re\\ W. BoAver Black, of Carterton, aa’lio Avas to have conducted the anniversary services at Knox Presbyterian Church, Dannevirke, on Sunday, unfortunately took seriously ill at Dannevirke manse on Saturday evening. Medical aid had to be summoned, and Mr Black was found to he suffering from an attack of pleurisy. He is now progressing favoijrably. A Avide circle of friends and old residents of the Wairarapa will learn Avith regret of the death of Mrs. Joseph Payton, which occurred on Tuesday morning at her residence in Masterton. The late Mrs. Payton was a daughter of the late William Macara, and was born at Munzie, in Perthshire, Scotland, 79 years ago. The Macara family came to New Zealand in 1866, in the ship Armstrong, and after a short sojourn in Auckland and Wellington, settled in GreytoAvn. The deceased lady married the late Mr. Joseph Payton at GreytoAvn, and later left to live in Masterton about 40 years ago. A family of two sons and three daughters survive her.

The death occurred at Weraroa on Sunday afternoon of one of NeAA’- Zealand’s oldest settlers, in the person of Mrs Sophia Sigglelcow, Avho landed in Nelson by the ship Skills in 1842. The deceased lady Avas born in Germany in 1834, and was eight years of age at the time of her arrival in NeAv Zealand, two years after the proclamation of British sovereignty over the infant colony. The late Mrs Sigglekow A\ent to LeA-in 23 years ago. She Avas tAvice married, and is survived by six children, These are Mr" Frederick SigglekoAV (Buimythorpe), Mrs Burkitt (Nelson). Mrs Jackson (Levin), Mrs T. Walker (Ohau), Mrs CressAA’ell (Palmeiston North), and Mrs Allison (Stratford).
