44 HOURS WEEK WANTED. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATIONWELLINGTON, Oct. 17. The Cdnciliation Connell this morning heard an application for a Dominion award by the Bakers’ and Pastrycooks’ Union. The employees asked for a 44 hours week, and that the hours of starting work for bakers and assistants be not earlier than 4 a.in., and pastrycooks not earlier than 6 a.m.; minimum weekly wages as follow : Foremen £6 10s, journeymen £6, bakehouse labourers £4 15s, female pastrycooks’ assistants £3 10s. The employers filed as counter-proposals the old Auckland award, With a 48 hours week. The hearing is proceeding.
