DAIRY PRODUCE.
BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR COMING SEASON. FACTOR OF FOREIGN COMPETITION. It is the opinion of Mr E. P. Jupp. manager of the London dairy produce .department of the NeAv Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Avho was in HaAA'era recently, that the prospects for Ne-Av Zealand dairy produce on the Home markets during the coming season are exceptionally bright. In conversation Avith a Dominion representative, Mr Jupo stated that the Dominion article laboured under many disadvantages on the Home markets, in competition Avith Danish dairy produce. The Danish dairy produce fetched higher prices because the market for it was older established; the butter Avas newly made, .and regular quantities arrived on the English market-s all the year round. Mr Jupp stated that there had been spasmodic buying of Danish butter on a large scale by Germany lately, AA'hich has for the time being caused Danish prices to rise far above NeAv Zealand prices. “One pleasing feature in connection Avith the industry is the greater personal contact between dairy experts here and buyers at Home,” continued Mr Jupp. “There have been seA'eral interchanges of visits of late, and personal observations from each end of the business are for the good.” The promising outlook for the coming season’s prices could be accounted for by the improving post-war European situation, he said. Various countries that had been affected would be coming into the markets as buyers again. Evidence of this »vas to he found m the firm prices for produce during the past few months. The neAv season’s produce only commenced to be sent forward in any quantity in September. Ncav Zealand butter and cheese v r as attraeth'eiv packed and generally reached London in splendid condition. Splendid facilities for the packing of the butter and cheese were to be had in warehouse and cold store. Mr Jupp also alluded to foreign com"etition other than Danish. The Siberian produce Avas no competitor for the Ncav Zealand goods because for the most part it Avas comparatively poolquality, and the importations very irregular. Transport facilities so far as Russian exports Avere concerned were in a chaotic state, and many of the cold stores were not, operating. The product ion in the Argentine had grown considerably within the . nast feiv months, and the quality of the export Avas high.
