Whether justly or not, sportsmen who go down to the rivers with rods enjoy the reputation of being very fin© talk-' ers, especially when the size or other qualities of their .catch are under consideration, but so far this season there has been very little opportunity of living up to that reputation. Comic papers would have it that every angler is a first cousin to Ananias, who was not a fisherman hut was very accomplished despite that drawback, but even an angler would surely blush if he ventur. ed to describe a catch that was out of the ordinary this season. The season has been in operation for a week or so now, but anglers have so far had a very lean time of it. The sport has been—well, nothing to talk about. The rivers have not been on their best behaviour at all. The fait is that there is too much water in the rivers, the result of the heavy rain that preceded the opening of the season. However, anglers are still living'in hopes that something good will turn up before very long.
