SYDNEY, Oct. 15. | The Railway Commissioners have under consideration a proposal to use motor buses instead of extending the present tramway system. The Coni; missioners are becoming perturbed at , the competition by private buses, which - arrange their time-tables where possible so as just to precede the trams, and so gather up all passengers. It is considered that the cost of a. fleet of buses would be much less than laying tram lines. WOOL SALES. MELBOURNE, Oet. 15. The second of the series of wool sales has opened. Super wools were at the levels current at the series. Good wools aiid top-making sorts were irregular and were 5 to 7\ per cent, lower. Best comebacks and crossbreds realised full late rates. SEAMEN’S WAGES. MELBOURNE, Oct. 15. The Arbitration Court has granted the claims of the Marine Cooks, Bakei's and Butchers’ Association for a reduction of working hours at sea to not more than eight, instead of nine, with, out overtime, operating from December 31 next. The claims for overtime for all work done on Sundays was refused, but overtime payment for work done in port on Sundays and on holidays was allowed. FORD IN AUSTRALIA. MELBOURNE, Oct. 15. Commenting on the reported decision of the Ford Motor Company to establish works in Australia, Mr. Pratfcen said: “We are going to give the company every encouragement that can be held out under the existing tariff laws to come out here and start.” He’hopes the scheme .will eventually develop into the complete manufacture of motor cars in Australia. RATES ON DRAFTS. Received Oct. 15, 10.35 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 14. The associated Australian and New {Zealand hanks have raised the selling rates on Australian drafts and mail transfers to 62s Gd per cent, premium, cable transfers to 70s per cent., and have reduced the rate on purchasing documentary bills to 20s per cent. The alterations commence on Friday. GERMAN LOAN OVERSUBSCRIBED Received Oct. 15. 10.45 a.m. NEW YORK, Oct. 14. Subscription books for the American 110,000,000 dollar portion of the.
