GLUT OF WARSHIPS.

MONARCH TO BE SUNK. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Oct. 15, 10.45 a.m LONDON. Oct.' 14. The Times, commenting on the Admiralty’s decision, to sink in deep water the warship Monai-ch, which is being scrapped under the Washington Treaty, says it is probably the first time that a capital ship of the Royal Navy has bee ndestroyed in this manner. The custom has been to use them as targets or to dismantle them in the shipbreakers’ yards. Since the armistice, however, there has been such a glut of vessels for, demolition that it was probably found more economical to sink the Monarch* instead of waiting for a suitable opportunity to sell.
