JERSEY BULL FAIR.
FAIR PRICES AT STRATFORD. The Stratford Jersey Cattle Club mad o a practice this year of inspection of all stock offered prior to its being included in the catalogue, instead or prior toi the sale, as was the case formerly. The result was that- the class of cattle offering was of a higher standard than would otherwise have been the ease. ,
Throughout- the sale, bidding was on the average, although in some cases it was fairlj' brisk. In the course of c-dn-versatic.n, an official of the Jersey Breeders’ Club said that the prices obtained by the auctioneers, Messrs Newton King, Ltd., could be regarded as highly satisfactory (the Stratford Post reports). The fourth annual bull fair under the auspices of the Stratford Jersey Cattle Club was held at Messrs Newton King, Ltd.’s saleyards on Saturday, There was a large attendance, and prices ranging from £7 to. £36 were obtained. The highest- price was .paid by Mr J. W. Crowe for Mrs M. A. Gadsby’s “Molly’s Lad.” A number of animals were purchased by Mr J. Penn, of Ixahukura, Poverty Bay. Sales of 20gns and over were: — Mr Thos. Orr’s Florists Gambade, Mr H. Snell, Leeston, 30gns. Mr E. J. Kirkwood’s Masterpiece (Dainty Enigma’s K.-C. —Snow View’s Queen), A. C. Bretherton, 30 gns.
