, The Wellington secretary of the British Medical Association, Dr. 3?. Campbell Begg, has received a cable message from Dr. Franklin Martin, Direc-tor-General of the American Association of Surgeons, stating that Dr MacEacheren, a leading American authority on the subject of hospital organisation and management, will visit New Zealand in the course of a few months. Dr MacEaeheren is coming to New .Zealand at the invitation of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, and while here will inquire into the Dominion hospital system. He will be welcomed and treated by the Government as a distinguished visitor. One of Auckland’s oldest pioneers, Mrs Aun Watson, was singled out for high honour at Friday’s reunion of old colonists (states the Post’s Auckland correspondent). This aged lady, who is in her 99th year, was taken to the Town Hall in the Mayoral motor car, and she occupied ap lace of honour at the Mayor’s right hand. Sir James Gunson told those present that it was nearly 90 years since Mrs Watson came to New Zealand. She was present at the landing of Captain Hobson at the Bay of Islands, and recalled many memories of stirring daj-3. “I had a talk with Mrs Watson before coming to the reunion,” added the Mayor, “and she tells me she doe 3 all her own housework, runs her own messages, reads all the newspapers, and gets up at 7 o’clock every .morning. I don’t know how she does it, but her great-gradnson tells me it is quite correct. lam proud to join hands with one whose life’s history goes so far back into the days of the foundation of this young country.” This graceful tribute\was received with loud and appreciative applause. It is often said that some people are quick off the mark after business, but an instance occured recently (states the New Zealand Herald) that would be hard to beat. The Mount Roskill Road Board received from a well-known citv firm a letter asking that the firm be allowed to quote for roofing tiles for the proposed hall. As the ratepayers have not yet had their oppertunity to vote on the question of borrowing the money to pay for the hall, the opinion was expressed that the application was “a little hit too previous.”
