AMATEUR STATUS. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Oct. 5. The local Athletic Association had a long discussion on the reinstatement of professio'nals as amateurs. Opinion generally was in favour of this, on the ground that there were many runners who would gladly become amateurs, hut the New Zealand Council, supported by a. decision of the Australian Council, refuses to admit them. It was stated that only the International Board at Home could alter the rules. It was decided to frame a resolution to he sent to the New Zealand Council in the direction of getting the rule altered.
