TOO REALISTIC

ACTOR IN HANGING SCENE. SENSATIONAL EXPERIENCE. THRILL EOR AN AUDIENCE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Oct. 15, 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 14. Claude Rains, the actor, had a sensational experience at Everyman’s Theatre. He was playing a part involving his mounting a wheeled scaffold with a rope around his neck. Somebody pushed the scaffold, causing him to overbalance. He swung out suspended by the neck, presenting a realistic picture of a hanging. The stage executioner promptly grasped and released the actor, who described his experience as like a drowning man coining up for the last time. A momentary review of his whole life passed through his mind. — Svdnev Sun Cables.
