COMMUNITY LIGHTING.

BUSINESS MENS DINNER

The proposed community lighting scheme for Hawera is nearing completion, and Mr. Gilbert, „who presided at the business men’s dinner last evening, announced that it would be ready to be put into effect a day or two before the summer show. ' About fifty persons attended the Hawera business men’s dinner in the Carlton Dining Rooms last evening. Several ladies were present, and the chairman in welcoming them said that he was glad to see so many, and that it was hoped to make up a strong committee of ladies to aid in celebrating the installation of the new community lighting scheme. It was expected to begin with the lighting on the Monday prior to the opening of the Egmont A. and P. Show, and it was suggested, that a grand evening’s entertainment, including torchlight procession, etc., should he organised to celebrate the turning on of the current. Several other speakers made tentative suggestions, hut the. final decision as to what form the celebrations would take will be announced later. During the evening several songs and elocutionary items were given bv tiesdamos Strange and Twaddle, and ’'t«sp’’s f\ C. Moss. McCormick, and AY. G Simpson Miss .Toll presided at the piano.
