AUCKLAND COLONISTS.
MR. AND MRS. MASSEY ' JOIN ASSOCIATION AUCKLAND. Oct. 10. At the old colonists’ reunion to-day, a new member announced by the chairman (Sir James Gunson) was the Prime Minister, and also Mrs. Massey. The secretary of the association recently wrote to the Prime Minister inviting him iand Mrs. Massey to be present at the 82nd anniversary of the arrival in Auckland of the founders of the New Zealand Old Colonists’ Association, adding: “As both you and Mrs. Massey are pioneers under the rules of the association you are eligible for membership, and my committee would deeply appreciate the privilege of enrolling you as. members. Enclosed are forms of membership which would be carefully preservd in the old colonists’ museum.” Intense enthusiasm was aroused among the gathering by the reading of the following telegram: “Replying to your letter of the 4th instant, Mrs. Massey and myself cordially thank the committee of the Old Colonists’ Association for their kind invitation to the annual thanksgiving and reunion, and regret exceedingly that inability to be in Auckland at that date owing to the exigencies of Parliamentary duties will prevent the pleasure of our being present. We both extend our very best wishes for a successful reunion on this 82nd anniversary of the arrival in Auckland of the founders of the association, to whom we offer our sincere congratulations. We shall have very great pleasure in becoming members of the association, and registration forms duly completed will go forA’.ard hy eayly mail.—W. F. Massey.”
