ELOCUTION AND DRAMATIC ART
Two years ago Mr and Mrs J. W. Bailey, who are well known in Ha - wera, opened a school of elocution and dramatic art in Wanganui- and have met with very great success. At present Mr and Mrs Bailey are. enjoying a few days’ rest at Manaia after the strenuous work attached to the recent competitions at Wanganui. The success achieved by the pupils of Mr and Mrs Bailey were remarkable, including gentlemen’s gold medal, ladies’ gold medal, girls’ gold■■■medal, girls’ scholarship of. 10 guineas tuition fees with any registered teacher, 42 places in prizel.ist, and 33 highly commended. The festival lasted 14 days, during which time ■ the judges were faced with 1200 entries —a record for Wanganui. Mr Bailey will endeavour to bring the medallists and first prize winners to Hawera shortly aiid give an entertainment here. The judges both last year and this year were exceedingly complimentary regarding the high standard of the competitions.
