STRUGGLE FOR LIFE.

GIRL’S TERRIBLE POSITION. MURDER AND SUICIDE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT BRISBANE, Oct. 13. Investigations at the scene of the Maryborough tragedy disclosed signs of a fierce struggle. The girl Moore apparently escaped from Bayldon, and was shot while running away. Then a second struggle occurred, and the girl again got away and was again shot. Several spent "cartridges were found along a blood-stained track, which showed that the girl was. taken to a water hole, where her wounds were washed and bandaged, after which she was placed- in the motor lorry. • Bayldon later stopped at a house’ and asked the occupier to witness his will. He then drove away, and subsequently shot himself.

[A previous cable stated: Charles Bayldon, aged 38, and Myrtle Moore, aged 16, were engaged to be married, but later the girl refused to marry, though Bayldon continued to be friendly. The girl was staying with a relative, and Bayldon called at the house with a motor lorry, stating that her mother wanted to see Myrtle. They drove away together, and nothing more was seen of them till evening, when it was reported to the police that Bayldon had shot himself in the lorry, in which they found- him fatally wounded, and he died shortly after. On lifting a tent fly in the! vehicle, the police discovered -the body of Myrtle Moore, with a terrible gash in the neck and the bead shattered.]
