TROUBLE NEAR SHANGHAI.
FOREIGNERS PREPARED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Oct. 14, 8.40 a.m.) SHANGHAI, Oct. 13. Lu and Hopenglui boarded a steamer early in the morning and sailed for Nagasaki. Troops on the Hwangtu Liuho front are already beginning to surrender. Kiangsu forces occupied Nansiang, 11 miles we6t of Shanghai, where the defenders joined them. French and other foreign volunteers in Shanghai are fully mobilised, and naval marine units are all at their stations. Every precaution has been made to cope with any developihent. It is, however, confidently believed that the war is ending, through the defection of generals' and troops, and not through defeat. There is no danger to foreign settlements.
