hours. If the department will not consider this matter then they might consider a secondary school for Manaia. Considering there -were thirty-three names, no doubt out of that number there should be at least twenty-four to start the school. The Education -Board would give their heartiest support for a secondary school for the district. Mr. Snowden eulogised the good W( *rk • takers has done for the school; also the school committee, and hoped the amendment would be carP e d a,nc l show the confidence placed in. the school committee and chairman for their good work. The chairman, in putting the amendment, said the resolution was not put forward as hostile to the school committee, but it was to strengthen the hands of the school committee, and he hoped more unity' would prevail between town and country in .this important matter. They all "realised that the present school committee were . the best they had ever in Manaia, and it had done splendid sservice which the citizens of Manaia and district appreciated very much. The chairman then called for a show of hands, and the a~mendment was carried easily, supporting the school committee. The Rev. Mr. Smith then moved: “That this meeting of Manaia. citizens, after consultation" with the Hawera Technical • School Board of Gox'ernors, urges upon, the Education Department the necessity of providing free conveyance running to school hours for country children from Manaia to the secondary education centre in Hawera; failing this, that a high school be established,in Manaia as soon as possible. ’’ This was carried unanimously; and the meeting closed with the usual vote of thanks to the chairman. Mr. A. G. Bennett also moved a hearty vote of thanks from the citizens of Manaia to the school committee for their splendid services. The motion was carried unanimously.
