RAILWAY SERVANTS. UNDER BUSINESS MANAGEMENT. RAILWAYS BILL PASSED. (By Telegraph.—Special to Star). WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. After the Telegraph Offic-. e cic-sed the House proeeded to consider the Goa eminent Railways _ Amendment Bill in committee. After a brief “discussion the Bill Avas reported, Avith a technical amendment. Mr Smith protested against clause 2, under which the classification of seiwice Avas to be fixed by Orde.r-in-Council instead of by Act of Parliament. His objection was that this was more “government by regulation,” and that the raibyay service had no opportunity ot considering the proposed change, and did not understand its effect. Mr Fraser said that as railwaymen ivere not definitely hostile to the proposed change the Labour Party would not resist it.
The Minister, in reply, said that iailivay servants had been considering this proposal for several months, and had apparently accepted it. The adA'antages of D 3 AA'ere more imaginary than real, and the men would’ have the same right to come to Parliament as hitherto if they AA'ere not satisfied. The Bill was read a third time and passed.
The House rose at 2.30 p.m. till 7.30 p.m. on Monday.
