(Received Oct. 11, 11.20 a.m.) ■ ' . . SYDNEY, Oct. 11. On Tuesday last, when the steamer Treworlas was bound from Octon Island, a fireman named John Jacob, a West African, was stabbed to death on the forecastle deck by a member of the Indian crew named "Medi Doran. The latter was immediately placed in irons, and handed over to the police on arrival at Newcastle. He was later charged with the murder. The two had been working together as greaser and fireman since the beginning of the voyage. Owing to •Doran s bad temper there had been frequent quarrels. Jacob was leaning over the deck rails when Doran attacked him with a knife, and before he had time to grapple with his assailant he was stabbed. The attack was so sudden that other hiembers of the crew were unable to intervene.
