CYCLISTS FINED.
RIDING WITHOUT LIGHTS. Gaps have been made in the ranks cl the cyclists Avho ride along Gloi’er Itoad without lights, for half a dozen ol them were dealt with by Mr. J. S. Baicon, S.M., at the Maivera. Magistrate s Court to-day. A- youth named Joseph Barry was the. first on the list, it being stated that Avhen stopped lie told Constable lidgeon that he had run out of carbide at Nonnanby. Sergeant Henry said that he had had a good many complaints from motorists regarding cyclists ridinoAvithout lights. ' ” yihe Magistrate imposed a fine of 15s and 7s court costs. That he avrs going for a doctor on account of illness in his family, Avas tbp excuse submitted bv Michael Murray, but a fine of 25s and 7s court costs was imposed.A fine of £1 and 7s court costs was inflicted in ‘ the case of Percy Todd, whose excuse was that he was going into Hawera to get some carbide. A letter stating that he Avas riding a few yards* behind his mother, who bad a light, avus received from C. Anderson. 'Die borough inspector pointed out that this Avas a dangerous practice, and the Magistrate. Avho also pointed out that it did not comply with the Ihav, fixed a fine of 10s and 7s court costs. The excuse that he Avas going for a doctor was also given by F. Greenhank. avlio Avas fined 15. s and 7s court costs. A fine of 10s and 7s court costs v;as imposed on W. W. Noble, who stated AA’hen apprehended that he had lent his carbide to someone else.
