The Chinese mail passenger vessel the Ningihin was proceeding to Foochow from Shanghai, when she was pirated off Wenchow by 34 armed passengers, who overcome the crew and took complete charge of the vessel, which they directed to Baisbay, near Hongkong, where they landed 30 chests °f Sycee silver, some mails, and a eonfiiderable quantity of cargo. The pirates then abandoned the vessel, which made for .Amoy. The meagre details available- show that some sort of resistance was put up by the crew, in which a Chinese* quartermaster was wounded. Among the 300 passengers were seven foreigners, all of whom are reported to have lost the greater part of their possessions.
