The police received word to-day that a man, Walter; Hayden, single, with no relatives in the Dominion, is "missing from his home at R.uawai. He had been acting peculiarly lately. His hat and coat were found" on the wharf !n.st night. It is surmised that he had thrown himself in the river and been drowned. The police are. engaged in the vicinity, blit so far no trace has been found. - this Act, and failure to do so will involve a fine of 5s for the first offence or £1 in the case of a subsequent conviction. Similar penalties are to be enforced in cases of electors who fail within two months of changing their address to notify the Registrar of Electors. It is the duty of every registered elector who is absent from his electoral district for a “ period of over three months to dive..notice to the registrar of his absence, which will not be a disqualification from voting. The existing rolls 'are to be abolished when the new Act operates, under the clause which provides that one registrar of electors may be appointed for any two or more districts in which it is comprised. In any part of the cities- of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch or Dunedin absent voters’ permits, except in the case of seamen's ri edits, may be. polled at -any post office, and provision Is made " for persons otherwise qualified, but- not on the roll, to vote on making a -declaration. The vote is. to-be placed in a sealed envelope before being inserted in the ballot-box.- The penalty for a wilfully false declaration is £SO, and the residential qualification, as indicated by the Prime Minister, is altered from one month to three months.
