BOWLING.
HAWERA SEASON OPENS. I;nclement weather marked the openmg of the bowling season in Hawera f 5 afternoon, and at the Hawera I own green prevented the playing of the time-honoured match, presfdeiit v. vice-president. An excellent afternoon tea, however, was provided by the ladies and laid cut in the tqwn club’s pavilion. The president, Mr S. Adamson, presided, and in a brief speech extended a cordial welcome to the visitors, and also wished them a prosperous season on their own greens. ~He formally declared, tlie green open for the season. The visitors present included bowlers from King Edward Park, Waverlev, Patea, Pihama, Eltham, Fitdroy, Lower Hutt and Kelhurn clubs, and telegrams wishing the club R successful season were received from the New Plymouth and Manaia clubs.
