WOMEN’S NATIONAL RESERVE
AN ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING. To one the words of the president. Monday evening's, meeting was an encouraging inspiration, lor the Women’s llest Room would not accommodate aH who attended the meeting. In. 1915 and its preceding years onv women enrolled themselves under the Women s National Reserve in the spirit oi patriotism to do their part in the war. On Monday evening it was clearly seen that the spirit of citizenship is still keenly alive in the Hawera woman. About 30 young girls added their names to the Reserve, hut not before the ('Mrs J. R. Corrigan) had explained how, although the present need of the National Reserve’s energies was to help keep our soldiers’ graves in a fitting condition, the members must remember that, they are banded together to rise to the occasion whenever that occasion presents itself. Hawera. was known as a flourishing [town, hut the executive of the Women's National Reserve ‘could testify of many cases of distress. The council were always-very grateful for any belli given in this direction, and it was the idea of the women to cooperate with the Borough Council as much as possible. After the new members had been welcomed arrangements were completed in regard to the care of soldiers’ graves in our local cemetery, and committees elected to arrange for the mothers’ tea on Armistice Day. Mrs Hoddle graciously offered her new room, expressing the hope that it would be crowded. The meeting closed in a fine spirit, which speaks well for the future lof the Hawera Women’s National Reserve.
