LOAN FOR GERMANY. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, Oct, 6. The Times, advocating a loan of £40,000,000 for Germany, says a great and dignified people, having made peace, will not derive any moral or material satisfaction or remain faithful to its own ideals if it carries hostility to the point of refusing to help in the reconstruction of Europe. Such action will involve neglect of Britain’s permanent interests. EGYPTIAN SITUATION. ZAGHLUL’S SUMMARY. ALEXANDRIA, Oct. G. A cable from London says that Zaghlul summarised the results of his conversations in London by saying: “They invited us to London in order to commit suicide, hut we refused to commit suicide. That is all that happened.” IRISH CRISIS. LONDON, Oct. 6. A crisis is imminent in the Free State Government. OTTAWA, 0< t. fi Mr Robb (acting-Minister for Finance) stated that Canada is ready to put into effect the Canadian-Austra-lian trade treaty to-morrow, provided Australia is ready. He said negotiations were continuing, their conclusion depending entirely upon Australia. Tlie treaty extends to Australia entire British preference. IRISH CATTLE FOR BELGIUM. LONDON, Oct. 6. Belgium is importing 10,000 Irish fat cattle during the next six months at the rate of 300 weekly. NEWSPAPER INNOVATIONS. (Received Oct. 8, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY. Oct. 8. The Daily Telegraph to-day appears in a new guise, the front page being devoted to news instead of advertisements as previously. There are many illustrations, and a number of other innovations. NEW SOUTH WALES RAILWAYS. SYDNEY. Oct. 8. The report of the Royal Commissioners on the New South Wales railways was tabled in the Assembly, and recommends, inter alia, that the Railway Commissioners be given full control of their own funds and should be responsible for the renewal of loans and the raising of future capital. It also recommends the appointment of a chief railway commissioner, three assistant commissioners and three assistant area commissioners. It urges completion of the city railway, and the electrification of suburban lines. It also recommends that passenger fares be reviewed.
