MOKOIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) REFORM LEAGUE BRANCH. On Friday evening Mr D. Hebenton held a meeting in the hall for the purpose of forming a branch in this distnet, and after explaining the aims and objects of the league, it was unanimously resolved to form a branch in Mokoi-a and district. The 'following office-bearers were then elected: President, Mr D. S. Richardson; vice-presi-Mr L. F. Bell; secretary, Mr R. A. Richter; and a. strong committee. Two delegates will attend the meeting to be h?ld at Waverley on Friday next. FARMING: NOTES. The farmers in the district are now just about into full stride as regards their herds;' and the local factory is rapidly increasing its output. Feed is now plentiful with most farmers, and the cows are gaining in*.condition as a consequence. In some cases there lias been considerable trouble with cows at calving time, and it is hard to determine the reason.. Paralysis in cows seems to be a common complaint, and there have also been .several cases of milk fever, but as regards the latter there need be no anxiety so long as the air pump is brought quickly into action. The weather so far lias.been good from a dairyman ’s point of view, and though there has been much .rain...and mud this spring one lias the, consolation that “the.more mud the more butter-fat,” and the experience of many is .an improvement compared with last season, and that was considered good until the dry spell came oif. The harrows arc now busy in. the hay paddocks before closing them up to provide winter feed, and the Settlers’ Association consider this an appropriate time to ask Mr Deem _to deliver i\x lecture. on the making of ensilage. Mr Deem lias kindly consented to give this lecture next week,' probably Tuesday evening, but the meeting will be‘ advertised, and it should prove of interest to all seeking information regarding useful fodder. THE ROADS. 'L’he County'Council lorries have been busy dumping metal to be used iu tarsealing of the roads in this district and Ave are looking forward to seeing this work done as soon as suitable, weather comes along.
