Lloyds’ register of shipbuilding returns for the quarter ended September 30 show that 1,468,000 tons of shipping are being constructed in .Great Britain and Ireland, a' decrease of 48,000 compared with the quarter ended June 30, hut an increase of 197.000 compared with a. year ago. The tonnage commenced during the quarter amounted to 252,000 tons compared ndth 375,000 tons for the previous quarter. The tonnage launched totalled 3,600,000 tons, only 4000 tons less than the June-quarter, which was the highest during the last 23 years. The total merchant tonnage building abroad was 1,112,000. an increase of 12,000 compared with the June quarter.
