A RAT’S CURIOSITY.
♦ CAUSES TROUBLE IN CHRISTCHURCH. (BY TKLEOBAPTT PREBi= \B«OCTATTON ' CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 6; A .rat, whose curiosity led it to climb up cue of the cables in the City Council powerhouse to-night, was responsible for an interruption of the electric lighting system, as a result of which certain parts of the city and Hen wood were plunged into darkness. The rat made a rapid ascent- of the cable and got at the hack of the tension board, where it paid fc.r its rashness with its life. Fo.r such a small animal it was able to cause a great deal of inconvenience. It interfered with the functioning of an 11.000 voltage conductor, and this brought about the extinguishing of house lights for over eight minutes iu some instances! The interrupt,ion to the street lighting system, however, was more serious, it being close on two hours before a complete restoration was affected.
