BENEFIT TO FARM LANDS. (EY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, Oct. 5. After a prolonged period of dry weather, broken by' occasional showers, conditions underwent a decided change on Friday night, when light rain fell. Thick drizzle set in on Saturday morning and continued almost without intermission the whole of the day and also to-day.. i The opening of the cricket season, set down for Saturday, had to be postponed and several bowling clubs conducted opening ceremonies in their pavilions. Saturday’s rain was responsible for holding up all the shipping in port, loading and discharging operations being impossible. The rain will do an immense amount of good to farming lands. The rainfall till 9 a.m. on Saturday was .310 inches and to-day 1.07 inches.
