FARMERS’ UNION.
MANGATOKI BRANCH C.. (iroin Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the above branch was held in the Mangatoki hall on Thursday evening. Mr. W. E. Carter (president) presided over an attendance of about thirty members. A letter from Mr. C. E. McGuinness w r as received, outlining a scheme in. view of the alteration' made in connection with the root-growing competitions, and suggesting that a committee be formed for each group to .receive nominations for crops; also that, in view of the large number of new members, the nomination fee be duced from 5s to 2s. After discussion, it was decided to charge 2s 6d nomination fee, and that nominations must be in by December 1. The following members were .elected, as. a ; committee: Western group, Messrs J. Pease, E. J. Sulzberger, J. P. Marx, J; Lambie, H. Thrush, and J. Cleaver;-eastern, group, Messrs C. Ctyrlson, W. E. . Carter, C. T. Nicholas, J. McGuinness, A. T. Sulzberger, and F. D: Hall. The president moved the following motion : “That this meeting qfjfa.rmers desires to express its entire faith in the Agricultural Bank Bill promulgated by Mr Poison, - president of the' Farmers’ Union, and. urges upon .the member for the district (Mr. Hawken) the necessity foyjeayjng no stone unturned to secure the passage of the measure during the present session of Parliament.” Mr. E H. Ousey seconded, and the motion was carried. The foliow'ing resolution was : carried on the motion:, of Mr C Carlson;-sec-onded by Mr A. T... Sulzberger : ...“That the Mangatoki Farmers’ Union unanimously desires to urge the Dominion executive fo use. its best endeavours to create the ward system of voting in connection wdtli the election of members of the Dairy Control Board.” The president stated that m'embers were aware that ; a.- cattle ..show ‘.'was talked of in connection with the branch to create interest among the members. Considerable discussion arose as-to the project, and the meeting expressed the opinion that a show r held in the autumn would create considerable interest, as w'ell as being educative, and on the motion of Mr. E. J. Sulzberger, seconded by Mr. J. Cleaver,, it w'as unanimously resolved to Hold a, show', and a committee consisting of Messrs W. E. Carter, H. Thrush, T. Linn. W. Hoskin, C. McGuinness, C. T. Nicholas and A. T. Sulzberger was appointed to draw' up a programme for submission to a general meeting in a fortnight’s time.
