A REMINDER.
£lO FINE FOE ASSAULT ON CONSTABLE. The. gravity of assaulting a constable on duty was forcibly impressed on a young man, Manasses Divver, when he appeared before Mr C. E. Orr-Walker, S.M., in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court (the Dominion reports). Sub-Inspector Hollis explained that during the progress of the Oriental ball at the Town Hall on Saturday night accused rushed past the doorkeeper, and a policeman was asked to remove him. During that process accused struck Constable Kenneally while the latter’s back was turned, and entered into a spirited struggle before the handcuffs were finally secured. The constable eustained a sprained thumb as the result of the encounter. Accused declared that he was under the influence of liquor, and did not know what he was doing. “I would never have hit a man behind his back if I was in my right senses,” he added. His Worship: A man generally goes to gaol for assaulting a policeman. As this is your first appearance, I’li assume that you were' the worse for liquor. Fined £lO, in default 14 days’ imprisonment—that perhans will remind you of your foolishness.
