ENTERTAINMENTS

OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. ‘•THE LOVE MASTER.” Squeals -of delight from the kiddies, accompanied by less audible' -sounds of satisfaction from the adults, will be the usual thing at the Opera House | to-night and to-morrow, where Strongheart, the wonder dog, in “The Love Master” will be the current attraction. Strongheart has always been a prime favourite of the youngsters, and in this production he has the aid of another beautiful police dog—Lady Julie by name—and five of the cutest puppies that have ever broken into i pictures. Strongheart’s courting of Lady Julie and the incidents which befall him when he fares forth with love in his heart brings heartier laughs than are usually the lot of pictures which are labelled comedy. The last laugh of the production, however, falls to one of the sons of Strongheart. There is also a most interesting boxi"g picture entitled “The Manly Art of Self-defence’’ and a comedy “Moving,” _ with lots of laughter-raising situations. MISS NELLIE BEAMLEY COMING. “FAIR AND WARMER.” OPERA HOUSE. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8. Direct from a highly successful season in the south, the Nellie Bramlev Company will appear on Wednesdav next in “Fair and Warmer.” This is an American comedy, and revolves around the domestic entanglements of two young married couples, who find themselves involved in compromising situations that are, however, quite harmless. An Australian writer says: “Miss Nellie Bramlev has proved iter worth as an emotional actress in the front rank of her profession, but as. Blanny Wheeler, the trustful wife of Jack Wheeler, in ‘ ‘ Fair and WaT mer. ’ ’ she was given a great scope for her i gifts as a comedienne and excelled herself in a role that was vastly different from any of her previous performances. With Mr Arthur Cornell, who 1 took the part .of Billy Bartlett, t-lic home-loving husband, she had.the house L io roars of laughter during the; entire ' second act, when each takes a sample P for the first time of the many and varied wines and liquers that Mrs Bart * lett keeps for the use of her friends.” ; Thus it is easy "to see how eompliea- , tions arise. Carl Lawson, George j Bryant, Billy McGowan, and John Gal--3 way are with the company; also Miss 3 Beryl Barraelough and Miss Sylvia ) McNair, so that their popularity can 5 never wane. Mr William Russeli, -who r is _ presenting the plays by arrangement i with J. C. Willamson Ltd., is keeping •. interest at a top. rate with his enter- - prising ability. The box plans will be j; at Everybody’s Sweet Stall from Mot , day, October 6. .
