WHEAT IMPORTS.

TO BE DISCONTINUED. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 2. An announcement by the Department of Industries and Commerce states the Government will discontinue supplying the market with wheat, ■which' course was commenced this year owing to ,the Unfortunate shortage in last year’s crops. The comparatively low prices at which the Government sold the wheat it imported apparently tended to restrict offerings by holders in the south. Statistical information indicates that New Zealand wheat was withheld in anticipation of better prices. In the event ofsupplies of imported fowl wheat still being necessary, and that they may continue to come in at the lowest possible cost, the duty other than primage duty will be suspended until February 28. Permits for the importation of quantities limited to current requirements will be issued after November 30 by the Customs Department, the Government providing wheat for immediate requirements.
