At the inquest on Ronald McCallum a *young man, who was killed at- a boxing tournament at Palmerston South on September 19, the coroner returned a verdict of accidental death, due to a ™£ cture of the base of the skulL. lhe coroner remarked that this was one of those unfortunate happenings in every hard sport. He suggested that there should be some kind - of padding outside the ring, particularly in amateur bouts. The evidence showed that the ring was only 16ft sin by 16ft 6iii., but the coroner held that this had no bearing on the accident.
