Mr. D. Hebenton, organiser for the Reform Party, left Hawera. this morning for Wellington. To the list of judges at the Egmont A. and P. Show, published in the Star PJ^rtously, -should be added the name ° r Eiggins, Tokomaru, who will judge the Friesians. The Hon. A. T. Ngata, M.P., who has been indisposed for several days was granted a further five days’ leave of absence from the House of Representatives on Tuesday. It was announced at a meeting last night that Mr. E. Dixon had signified his willingness to act as chairman of the scout, committee until such time as the movement was thoroughly established here. Mr. Dixon said lie took up the work gladly because lie recognised the importance of it. The Rev. W. E. Connolly is retiring from the charge, of the parish of St. George’s Church, One Tree Hill, Auckland, and is being succeeded by the Rev. J. L. Litt, who- recently ai'rived from the diocese of Winchester, Auckland. Sir Lindo Ferguson, C.M.G., who left by the Niagara to attend the Medical Congress at New York, has been advised by wireless that he had been appointed to represent the University of New Zealand, of which he is the dean of the medical faculty, at the opening of the Pathological Institute at McGill University, Montreal, on October 6. There passed away yesterday morning at, New Plymouth an old resident of Manaia and Kaupokonui in the person of Mrs Gamlin, aged 72.. Thirtynine years ago Mr and Mrs Gamlin and family settled in Manaia, and lived there till their retirement about eight years ago. Mr Gamlin predeceased her bv 15 months. She leaves a family of three sons- —Messrs Abel, John and Fred Gamlin, and three daughters—Mrs Topless, of Urenui, and Mrs Cuningham and Mrs Frances, of New Plymouth.
