PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE. • ORDINARY MEETING. At the monthly meeting to-day--there were present: Messrs. Ri. * Dunn H. Hodge, S. . Huston, J. 1 cubes, H. Wood, E., J, Betts, A J lt r\ ne 7, W ' T * Seed, W. F. Lyndon ] Duff. The secretary (Mr. E. K. Cameron) was also present. An apology was .received, from Mr. A. R B Pierce. Advice was received from Kapuni that a. branch was formed last Monday, and officers appointed as follow: Piqsident, Mr. J.' Leslie; executive Messrs. R, Shaw, R. Pickford, g’ Cox; secretary, Mr. A. T. Honore. BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ CLUBS. • D* regard tp the subsidy given by the. Minister of Agriculture of £2OOO for clubs throughout the Dominion, this was considered most satisfactory, aigl it was resolved that the secretary write to- tlie Minister expressing the appreciation of the union and asking conditions and how the amount would he allocated. Several replies were received from branches recommending supervisors for the competitions. . A tribute was paid by the secretary to the assistance given by the school tegchers in tlie work of the clubs. ivas reported that entries were coming in well. The totals received so far for calf-rearing, mangolds and carrots' respectively were as follow: Toko: 5. 9, 7. Rawhitiroa: 11, 7, 4. Anroa: 18, 2, 4. Ararata : 5,2, 0. Otakeho: 6,2, I. Tokaora : 3. 5. 2. Douglas : 3. 0. 0. Mokoia : 2,3, 2. Finnevty Rd :9,0, 0. Oeo :5,0. 0. Ngaere: 4,3, 2. Kaponga-: 0,1, 6. IMPORTANT MATTERS. The secretary reported that circulars had been sent as directed at last-meet-ing to members ol Parliament, dealing, with workers’ compensation, Highways Bill and agricultural bank. ” M l '. J. R, Corrigan said these matters would have his attention, and added that- he had got tlie Minister to j.subsidise the Boys' and Girls’ Clubs. I Mr. R. Masters replied that the j Workers' Compensation Bill had been j discharged, tlie Highways Bill would hive lily best attention. In regard to the agricultural bank, the Bill had always had his earnest support, and he would use his best efforts ;n placing the necessary legislation on the Statute Book. M l '- 0. Hawken said that he had inquired into tlie nossibility regarding main highways of an increased dutv on tyres, but found it was not feasible to raise the duty on tvres, as they would be manufactured in the Dominion if an increase were made. He considered the agricultural hank had a chance, but that there were many difficulties, and assured members that he was always iu favour of the hank In a few general remarks the president said he believed it would he a good, move if the new industry were instituted. It was just what was wanted. Members generally agreed a tvre tax was most equitable fo all. ■ The accounts were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
