AUCKLAND LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP. ; (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 1. Tlie semi-finals of the Auckland ladies’ golf championship resulted: Miss Mac Cormack (Auckland) beat Mrs Guy Williams (Wellington), 2 up and 1; Miss M. Payton (Auckland) beat Miss M. Cato (Napier), 4 up and 3. MANAIA CLOSING DAY. The weather conditions were not too kind to Manaia golfers yesterday when they had the olfieial closing day for the season. There was a good muster of players, including several from Hawera Club, and a number of friends of players, who took a keen interest in the proceedings. In the early part of the afternoon a nine-hole mixed four-ball match was played, in which five fours took part. The results were as below: Miss Clague and Page beat Miss Burne and Young, Mrs. J. Christie and Evan beat Mrs. Poynter and A. H. Christie, Miss Donald and Meuli beat Mrs. Armitage and Smith, Mrs. A. H. Christie and’ Sutton beat Mrs. Mitchell and IT. Tonks. Miss Judd and Hannah and Mrs. Meuli and Douglas were all square. Approaching, and putting competitions, three distances, were then held and created keen rivalry, two men and one lady going out in nine each. Miss M. Armitage won among the ladies, and Douglas among the men after a play-off with A. EL. Christie. The president, Mr. Judd, then formally declared the season closed. He said that all would be sorry to see the •closing of a season 'which had been very good and interesting, and which they would fain have prolonged. He was pleased to see players from Hawera present, for it was always nice to welcome representatives from other clubs, and it created a friendly spirit amongst them. He said he considered the prospects for the future were very bright, especially with the ladies, who were to he complimented on the energy and enthusiasm they had shown. They had displayed an ungrudging interest, and their ivork in providing afternoon tea on Wednesdays and. Saturdays had I been keenly appreciated. They had, I too, shown more keenness in practising, Rnd consequently great progress was to be seen amongst the younger players. He suggested that much good could be done by 'the executive meeting from time to time to talk over matters connected with tlie club’s affairs. In conclusion, he said that mingled with the pleasure of seeing so many players and friends present was I the regret felt by all at having to declare the season closed. The prizes were then presented by Mrs. A. 11. Christie, the list of winners being as follows: Mr. A. H. Christie’s trophy and L.G.A. medal, Mrs. A. Mitchell; Miss Jones’ trophy, Miss H. Judd; approaching and putting, Miss M. Armitage; driving, Mrs. A. Mitchell; club champion, Miss Clague; approaching aijjriputting, E. A. Douglas; driving, iVI. Ryan A graceful little compliment was then paid to Mrs. A. H. Christie when Mrs. Corey presented her with a. very pretty bouquet, with artistic ribbon decorations. Mrs. Corey said that the members wished to show their appreciation of all Mrs. Christie laid done, and added that she believed that but for her they would have no club. Mrs. Christie suitably replied. Hearty cheers were given for the winners, for the ladies, for the visitors, and for Mrs. Christie, and a very interesting afternoon closed.
