A meeting of Egyptian press representatives decided to telegraph to the Sultan Nvd, whose Wahibi tribesmen are only a few miles from Mecca, begging him to show humanity to the civilian population at Hedjaz. A traveller from Mecca confirms the critical position in the city. Anarchy reigns, and pilgrims are fleeing. El Hussein mobilised the police in connection with the transfer of the Government to Jeddah, and the jpopujation is now defenceless against* increasing robbery and violence.
