In connection with the death of Mr. John Macklam it is interesting to recall that some years ago he gave the money to build the small lake in the nark for the benefit of the children. In conversation with a councillor at the time he used words to the effect that he was prepared to help those who could not helD themselves. Subsequently Mr. Macklam’s words were inscribed on a stone which was laid when the work of building the lake was commenced.
