VIOLIN RECITAL.

BY MR M. NEWBERRY

TO-MORROW NIGHT

A very attractive programme has been arranged by Mr Matthew, Newberry for his violin recital to-morrow night in the Opera House. He has chosen wisely from an extensive repertoire, and his numbers will give him scope to show his ability as a soloist, and each will serve as a fine contrast in style, to the succeeding number. Among the solos clmsen are the great Grieg “Sonata,” the charming “Valse Tnste” of Sibelius, Ivriesler’s “Liebesfreud,” a Bach-Gounod “Ave Maria,’’ a Bach “Aria. G String,” Saint Saens’ “Le Cygne,” Chopin “Nocturne,” and others. Mr Newberry will be assisted by Mi- A. H. Ripley, the popular tenor from Auckland, who is well known here and always a favourite. His songs will include “Ah! moon of mv delight” (Lehmann), “There is a flower that bloometh” (Wallace), “Salva Dniora” (Gounod). “Mignon” (Thomas) and “Boat Song” (Harriett Ware) ihe accompaniste will be Mrs R. F. Page, and the piano parts in the violin works are very beautiful and brilliant. Ihe recital is creating a great deal of interest, and should attract a large audience Seats should he reserved at Mrs Cook s store at the Opera House.
