RECIPROCITY.

CANADA AND AUSTRALIA

NEW ZEALAND’S POSITION

(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 30.' In Parliament to-day, replying to Mr. E. A*. Ransom (Pahiatua), the Hon. W. Downie Stewart said he had seen the published cable regarding the trade treaty between Canada and Australia. . This he took to be an attempt to improve trade between Australia and Canada, which was on nothing like so good a. footing as thatbetween Canada and New Zealand. Although he was not able to say so officially he believed that automatically any benefit which came to Australia under the treaty would to New Zealand, as Canada gave to this Dominion the most favoured terms granted by her to any other country.

The Minister for Agriculture laid on the table a paper giving the annual sheep returns. He stated that the returns showed an increase of 094,339 in the number of sheep over last year.

’Tlie House rose at 1.48 a.m. till 2.30 p.m.
