A much-respected resident of over 68 .vears standing, Mr. .Joseph Wood,, of Nelson, passed away on Wednesdav, in hi,s -87th year. Deceased arlued in Nelson with his parents in the ship Mariner in 1856, having been horn at Seven Oaks, Kent, and with the exception of a short period on the U est Coast during the gold rush, had resided in the Nelson district ever since. For 18 years the late Mr. Wood was m the employ of N. Edwards and Co., continuing for another twentv years with the present firm of J. H. Cock and Co. On April 16 last the late Mr. and Mrs. Wood celebrated their golden wedding, having been married in 1874 by the Rev. M. Biss. Deceased was one of the first members of the Nelson Institute, continuing to be a member up till the time of his death. A widow and a grown-up family of tno daughters' and five sons survive.
