A framed photograph of the late Lieutenant-Commander W. E. Sanders, .C., was presented to the borough of Takapuna on Wednesday by Mr. W. Blomfield. In handing the portrait to the keeping of the Borough Council, Mr. Blomfield said it was taken in England just prior to LieutenantCommander Sanders’s departure on his last epic adventure, and was, without doubt, the last photograph taken of the gallant New Zealand sailor (states the New Zealand Herald). In accepting the gift on behalf of the neople of Takapuna, the Mayor, Mr. J* W. Hayden, said the portrait would he treasured by the people of Sanders’s home town for all future time. It would be hung in the most prominent place in the council chambers. Confucius lies buried in ?. graveyard in Chufu, Shantung, his home. There his descendants, the clan of K’ung, still live. The head of the clan, Duke K’ung, as well as the water carriers in the streets, if they be of the K’ung c amilv. are equally entitled after death to lie within the red walls enclosing the urial place of the great philosopher.
