TIME PAYMENTS.
CHARGE AGAINST A I'OUTH. (BY TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION ) WANGANUI, Sept. 29, Unusual disclosures were made at the Magistrate’s Court this morning before Mr Barton, S.M., when a youth was charged with the theft of a bievcle valued at £l4 10s. Mr Treadwell, for accused, said accjised bought a bicycle under (the wrltched time-pa vment system, and signed .Ut not knowing its nature, this being'Yetaiued btf llief seller of the machine. He paid in instaliVfents £4 7s 6djf and later sold the bicycle for £8 10s and then ma.de further payments to the vendor, being ahead of the due date, and did not realise he was doing anything wrong. The Magistrate said he; was satisfied it would be useless to send the ease to a jury, and considered Detective Gourley had adopted the proper course in asking to withdraw it.. He considered it advisable that people who purchased goods on time-payment should know" that the form of bailment does not permit them to dispose of the goods until the last instalment has been paid. Mr Treadwell said it very often took a good lawyer Ml his time to understand'these time-payment documents, and often a good lawyer did not understand them. -
