COAL PRODUCTION.
RAPID TRANSPORT. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) _ ' WESTPORT, Sept. 27. The Cardiff Bridge party of ten members celebrated at Seddonville last evening the completion of their Burning system, by which they convey c-oal by water. through a flume 12ih. broad* with sides 12in. high for a distance cf 90 chains from the mine to the bins at Seddonville. The party’s output has been m the vicinity of 30 tons, but it will, now be increased to 1000 tons. Ten men who were on the rope road are now no longer required there, and go to work in the mine in the production o.f coal. It is estimated that by fluming they will be able to deliver coal into the bins at the rate of a ton a minute, ■id that the cost of transport will be reduced from 7s 6d to 3d a ton. The party, which began as a co-oper-ative concern, has now developed into a company of some magnitude, as it employs 40 men and will probablv considerably increase the number under improved transnort. Quite a number of other parties, and-also the Stockton Cc.al Company, are arranging similar transport. The Cardiff Bridge party is the first in the Duller field to put the system into actual oneration, and considerable interest is taken in the working of the scheme.
