TOWN BOARD. A . special meeting of the newly-elect-ed Board was held for the purpose of electing the chairman and committees. Tlie, clerk took the chair pro tem. On the motion of Or. Lloycl, seconded by Cr. Hill, Or. Preston was elected chairman.

The following committees were elected Works: Crs. Preston, Leydon, Lloyd. Finance: Crs. Preston and Goad. Cemetery: Crs. Preston, Hill and Coad. Domain: Crs. Preston, Hill and Coad. The chairman and clerk were authorised to- sign' cheques on behalf of the Board.

The Bqard’s foreman, who is undergoing treatment in the Hawera Hospital, was granted two weeks leave of absence. TENNIS CLUB BALL.

Tile dance to be held on Tuesday evening. September 30, promises to be one of the lhost successful of the season. The committee have all arrangements well in hand. : The music will be supplied by Mr McDonald’s orchestra, so patrons can rely on the prospects of an enjoyable evening. SALE OF WORK. In spite of t-lie boisterous weather yesterday, the sale of work inaugurated by the Normanbv Methodists to provide for the erection of a new Sunday school was well patronised. The ladies, who have be*w working hard for some considerable time sewing, etc., had their stalls looking very attractive, and were in charge of the following : Plain .end fancy sewing, Mesdames Rowe and Gane; handkerchiefs and,, doylevs, Misses Johnson, J. Paine, K. Ballantine, and E. Andresen; sweets, Misses H.oddinott. Grindrod and Slinger; cake, Misses Reid, Clements and Gane; miscellaneous, Masters K. Ballantine, C. Andersen and E. Gane. The tearoms, which were kept very busy, were in the capable hands of Mesdames Ballantine. Franklyn, Streeter, Tippett,. Norfolk and Misses Antlionv, Franklyn and .Pollock. In the evening a number of Hawera friends were present, when a programme of music, recitations, songs, etc., was rendered and much appreciated by all.
