A SYDNEY TRAGEDY

BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Sydney, Sept. 26. An inquest was held to-day concerning the deatlx of Maurice Roblin. who shot himself after wounding Mrs Alma Fennell. Evidence was given that deceased was an Englishman, who was attached, to the Indian -Army and served during the war in East Africa and Mesopotamia. A letter was found among . his belongings from the Imperial Pensions Office, (fyited:. June, 1923. asking him to call f6r £9OO, the balance of his gratuity money. The chief witness, Mrs Alma Fennell, >whoi is still suffering from her wound, stated that Roblin was a friend of hers and of her sisters. He used to visit them almost-daily and take her out. Sometimes he asked, her to marry him, but she told him she was married; Up to that time he had known : her by her maiden name. He still continued to visit them. A few 1 months ago he told them he had lost everything, and since then he had been very , depressed and drank a lot. She and her sisters helped him in many ways. She could not understand his shooting her, ds they were friendly up to the-'very last. The only explanation was that'he was insane. She denied a suggestion contained in a letter which Roblin' left that she had thrown him over in favour of a titled person, wlin was ready to take her, because all the money‘had gone. ‘
