One of the dainty little performers in one' of the children’s elocutionary, classes at the Wanganui Competitions gave spontaneous expression to the dominating spirit of the festival. She had put up an excellent performance, but not quite good enough to secure the place of honour at the head of the prize list. When father went to kiss her “good night” the little mite exclaimed, “If I’d won to-day you’d have been proud of . ■ me, wouldn’t you, daddy?” “YesV my dear, I should; but never mind. I think you did splendidly.” “Ah, but daddy* the little boy’s mother will be proud of him, won’t she?” There, surely, spoke the spirit of true sportsmanship.—Chronicle.
