PATEA FREEZING WORKS.
The Taranaki Farmers’ Meat Co,, Ltd., having decided to sell their works at Smart Road, makes it imperative for the farming community of South Taranaki and the Waverley district to see that a special effort is made to keep the Patea works open. The stock buying company now in course of . formation ought to be launched without difficulty, and the benefits accruing to the farmers are immense. We are' given to understand that the freezing charges at the Patea works are about as low as any in New Zealand. The turnover last season was fairly good, but r, still capable of being increased, and one result of the works being kept open will he the freedom of action on the part of farmers with istock for freezing. As there is no intention to indulge in speculative buying on the part of the proposed new company, the possibility of losses being incurred is practically nil. The Patea works rank as one of the oldest in the colony. and it would be more than a pity—it would be a. calamity—if the reoereity arose for the works to be closed.
