CAN TER BT.TR Y MARKETS. (»' Ml MJIIiI'II — PKKSS .A HSOIM ATIIIN • CHRISTCHURCH, Sent. 23. The expected has happened in the potato market. The high price of. £9 a ton. nhich. f.o.b. sacks in paper potatoes were making last week, was too much in the air to hoid, and to-day they are freely offering at £7 Ills. During the rush a. few sales were made at up to £6 on trucks, but those growers who quitted generally averaged from £5 10s to £5 15s. There are now more offering, as the season is getting somewhat late for much further risking of the market. With the uncertainty regarding the quality of future Australian shipments, it is not improbable that Canterbury will firm up later in October, the extent, of course, depending on the quantity held. The departure of the Wingatni has been delayed until Wednesday. The Navua is due to leave on Thursday, and the Wanaka at the end of the week. Their potato cargoes for the north are expected to be liglfcfc. Cowgrass is'm good inquiry for good samples. Chaff is meeting with a brisk demand, the weather causing some anxiety. It is worth on trucks about £7 7s 6d a. ton Other seeds remain unchanged. LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLED REPORT.
